Amazon Crisis

Motive Power is committed to giving back and motivating those around us to act. The crisis in the Amazon is unprecedented and the need for action is urgent. Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research has reported a recent 84% increase in forest fires from the same period in 2018. The Amazon is also threatened by deforestation, cattle farmers, dams, and illegal mining.

At this time Motive Power has donated a total of $50,000 to the organizations listed below, all fighting for the rainforests. These organizations are all working to save and conserve the Amazon through partnerships, legal resources, securing land rights, land acquisition, research and training to name a few. We encourage folks to educate themselves, donate if they can and implement one action from the Rainforest Foundations article.

These organizations are a great resource to learn more about the fires burning in the Amazon as well as where to donate to the cause. The Rainforest Trust offers options for employers to match contributions, that we ourselves are looking into. This is a great way for employees and employers to act together to save the rainforests.

  • The Amazon Conservation Team- https://www.amazonteam.org/ – The Amazon Conservation Team partners with indigenous and other local communities to protect tropical forests and strengthen traditional culture. They develop initiatives with the indigenous guardians so that goals can be worked on together.
  • Rainforest Foundation US – https://rainforestfoundation.org/ – Just $5 saves an acre of Rainforest! – They work on-the-ground to secure land rights for indigenous people. They strengthen indigenous land security and train indigenous communities to use technology to protect their forests. By investing directly in indigenous communities, Rainforest Foundation US connects people who are deeply motivated to conserve their ancestral lands with the tools, training, and resources necessary to protect their rainforests.
  • Rainforest Trust- https://www.rainforesttrust.org/– The Rainforest Trust purchases and protects the most threatened tropical forests, saving endangered wildlife through partnerships and community engagement. 100% of donations go towards conservation action. With nearly 20 million acres secured their current goal is to secure 50 million acres by 2020. Read more on their website.
  • Amazon Conservation- http://www.amazonconservation.org/ – They unite science, innovation and community to protect the western Amazon—the greatest wild forest on earth. The organization has grown to protect over 4 million acres of rainforest, establish Peru’s first conservation concession, host thousands of scientists and tourists at their three premier biological stations, empower indigenous communities to develop forest-friendly livelihoods, and so much more.
