How are utilities progressing on sustainability and transparency?

The NPUC Magic Radar visualizes utility progress across sustainability strategies, supplier engagement, and transparency metrics—all in one snapshot. See what’s being reported, how deeply, and what’s actually changing.

How Does the NPUC Magic Radar Work?

The NPUC Magic Radar gives a snapshot of how utilities are progressing by visualizing trends in sustainability strategies, supplier engagement, and transparency metrics. Here’s how to read it:

Bubbles

Bubbles are sized by percentage reduction in CO₂ or CO₂e emissions from electricity generation over a 5-year period.

Compass Quadrants

Utilities are grouped by U.S. region. Foreign-based utilities are placed by where they serve the most U.S. customers.

Scope 1-3

Transparency credits are awarded based on how many of the 15 Scope categories a utility reports on.

Net Zero Target Years

Utilities are placed by the year they’ve committed to Net Zero or full emissions reduction.
