Summary

Medtronic, Inc., a Fortune 500 company, is the world’s largest medical technology company and is dedicated to providing lifelong solutions for people with chronic pain. The Coronary/Renal Denervation (C/RDN) business specializes in medical devices used in interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery, and renal denervation associated with hypertension, the company’s newest therapy. The Coronary business unit represents one of the company’s most profitable businesses, and the Renal Denervation business unit, built out of a recent acquisition, is a market-making new therapy and product set at Medtronic.

Summary

Sutter Health was in the midst of a system-wide EHR program when it became clear that its current PMO infrastructure was not sufficient to effectively manage complexity and scope. Sutter Health engaged Motive Power to quickly stand up a PMO, including project management processes and tools, to enable the program leadership and project teams to drive a massive deployment.

Due to resource constraints and expertise gaps, Sutter Health engaged a vendor partner, Optum Insight, to build out a health insurance subsidiary for Sutter Health. Sutter Health brought Motive Power in to provide the overall program management for the start-up build out in a situation where the initiative was struggling to make progress.

Motive Power was brought into assist the initiative team to catalyze the planning process for the initiative that had stalled for 6 months. Based on the initiative planning, Sutter engaged Motive Power to establish a PMO to enable Sutter to complete the initiative within the targeted timeline of 18 months.

PG&E Case Study

Summary

PG&E’s key executives needed to improve how over $1B in annual project spend is managed across the company to increase the number of projects delivered on time, within scope, in budget, and on purpose. Motive Power worked with the company-wide executive team to define and develop a new corporate standard around project management. The Shared Services organization turned to Motive Power to help implement the initiative in its departments. Together, Motive Power and Shared Services management focused on creating and deploying project management practices, processes, and tools that would meet best practice standards and leverage company knowledge and expertise.
